Job Title: VP of Engineering
 

OverviewWe are looking for a software engineering leader who is passionate about leading and building products.  We have a nimble, fast-moving engineering team and want to add a senior leader to the team who can take it to the next level.  We are highly customer-oriented and focused on strong design and engineering on the back end.  This position will require you to architect and implement solutions and features to serve our customer base.

 

The ideal candidate should be able to both lead development processes and be hands on with feature development.  The role will report directly to the CEO.  The candidate will manage the software engineering, platform engineer, DevOps, and IT functions at our organization and will work closely with the VP of Product.

Responsibilities:
  • Design, analyze, test, document, and implement highly complex, technically sound, and well-integrated code. 
  • Work closely with product management to define the roadmap, set priorities, provide estimates, and improve product specification.
  • Facilitating discussions, decision making, and conflict resolution.
  • Develop individual team members to further their technical, business, and professional skills to advance the technology roadmap.  When called upon, be able to directly perform technical work that advances deliverables. 
  • Set appropriate team and individual goals and hold all accountable toward progress against those goals. 
  • Act as change champion and own the adoption of evolving engineering processes and methodologies.
  • Implementing effective agile-oriented project management tools. 
  • Facilitate daily stand ups, weekly planning, and review meetings to monitor project progress and resolve any issues the team may be experiencing.
  • Lead architecture and code reviews and get hands-on in the code development/deployment when appropriate.
  • Evolve the suite of tools and platforms utilized by the team to optimize efficiency and performance. 
  • Provide visibility into platform and product viability through well-chosen metrics and concise status reporting.
  • Perform all levels of software integration testing and QA validation
  • Assume responsibility for application support and immediate response to production issues as they arise.

Requirements:
Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Master’s in Computer Science and or MBA preferred
  • Minimum of 10+ years’ experience in highly trafficked websites or mobile apps.
  • Minimum of 5+ years leading and/or managing interdisciplinary development teams at the Director level
  • Experience developing and maintain web applications using JavaScript, Node.js, React, and TypeScript.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in API development for cloud-native SaaS applications, API design, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB
  • Strong experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g. Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, or equivalent), with a focus on automation and secure code development.
  • Demonstrated understanding of secure Agile SDLC practice
  • Proficiency with AWS services, especially RDS, Lambda, S3, and API Gateway, for managing cloud-native applications
  • Knowledge and experience in best-practice engineering processes/methodologies/platforms such as Agile, Service Oriented Architecture, separation of concern, redundancy, and high scalability.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and listening skills, with the ability to present complex technical information to a variety of technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience managing vendor relationships.
  • Experience in building, engaging, retaining teams and influencing outcomes.
